Enthusiasm and confidence ruled over the launch bash of Kerala Strikers the latest team to join the Celebrity Cricket League
It's Celebrity Cricket League once again and this time Kerala Strikers, the team which comprises actors from the Malayalam film industry, is gearing up for the matches. Scheduled to begin on January 20, 2012, at stadiums across the country, this will be CCL's second outing and the party's only getting bigger. While teams of actors from Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka took part in the last season, this time will see participation by two new States Kerala and Kolkata.
Co-owned by Lissie Priyadarshan and businessman Shaji P M, Kerala Strikers is captained by none other than the superstar himself - Mohanlal. Actor Indrajith Sukumaran is vice-captain. The star studded team, that was chosen through auditions, features actors like Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Bala, Saiju Kurup, Rajeev Pillai, Vinu Mohan, Nikhil (singer), Nivin Pauly, Munna, Manikuttan and Bineesh Kodiyeri among others. Adding to the glamour quotient are the brand ambassadors actresses Bhavana and Laksmi Rai.
"We have all been a bit out of touch with the game, so we have begun practice sessions," reveals Nivin. "It is only after we got on the field that we realised how much stamina it requires to play such a match," points out Indrajith.
AMMA (Association of Malayalam Actors) who is supporting the venture, echoed this sentiment, saying that the game is sure to spread the spirit of camaraderie in the film field which is currently ridden with conflicts and ego clashes.
A launch like this would not be complete without an after party and that's exactly where the brand new team as well as participating guests from other States headed. Team owner Lizzie played the perfect host as she explained the intricacies of the exclusively prepared authentic cuisine. Held over the lawns, overlooking the sea, with some music for company, the ambience was just perfect. "In the midst of all the preparations for the launch as well as the party, we forgot about printing my name on a Strikers' jersey. I need to get that done soon," Lizzy was overheard saying.
Coach Pankaj managed to talk shop too, as he was keen on grabbing tips from the actor-players who have been there and done that. As for the new team itself, it's confidence and enthusiasm all the way. With at least five of the matches scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi, this one is going to be a treat for the fans for sure.
